Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I choose mediation?
Mediation is an opportunity for the parties resolve their differences and make a plan for their future, and their children's future (if the parties have children). Otherwise, the court will listen to the evidence and make a decision for your family, without any input from either party.
Is mediation mandatory?
Once your case is filed with the court, you will be ordered to attend mediation prior to a final hearing (trial). Sometimes, you'll be required to attend mediation to resolve on a temporary basis (ie: where the children will live before the case is finalized, and how much, if any, support will be paid during the pending case.
Do I need an attorney?
Mediators are not permitted to give legal advice to either party. It is always best to at least consult with an attorney so that you have some understanding of your rights and responsibilities when it comes to the law.
How much does mediation cost?
My fees are $200/hour, plus $100 administrative fee (with a 2-hour minimum). Most mediations, on average, last between 4-6 hours.
